Private Property is South Africa’s largest online property portal, and every year hosts The Property Show, Africa’s largest property exhibition event. In 2022, we helped deliver it as a hybrid event, where in addition to the live venue, Surreality hosted a number of key panel discussions in a customised metaverse studio.

Tapping into our partners’ tech at ReadyPlayerMe to effortlessly generate an avatar of the host, we were able to digitally represent the presenter in the VVP studio via a Virtual Reality headset. Bridging the virtual and real worlds further, we then brought the panelists and speakers in to the world using Zoom video calls, with the avatar host facilitating the discussion in the virtual studio, in real time.

We pre-recorded 5 hour-long panel discussions as metacasts, edited and packaged them, and then made them available online through the Property Show event portal. In addition, we recorded one metacast where the virtual host interviewed Private Property’s Business Development Executive about their plans for the coming year.

Bringing a touch of the cusomised metaverse studio to the IRL event, we recorded short vignettes with the avatar host, which were then played on screens around the physical venue , welcoming visitors to the event, as well as serving as informational snippets and animated wayfinding around the venue.
